Qu\u2019il soit de nature mat\u00e9rielle ou plus spirituelle et symbolique, le don courtois est avant tout un \u00ab\u00a0don de soi\u00a0\u00bb, encourag\u00e9 par la doctrine de la <em>fin\u2019amor<\/em>.<\/p><p>Le don participe de usages sociaux aristocratiques parfois li\u00e9s \u00e0 la mise en sc\u00e8ne du pouvoir, comme \u00e0 travers les miniatures de d\u00e9dicace. L\u2019imagerie du don amoureux rappelle l\u2019importance d\u2019un rite marquant le d\u00e9but de la relation amoureuse. Dans ce type de repr\u00e9sentations, les offrandes sont aussi vari\u00e9es que le po\u00e8me, la fleur, les anneaux ou le <em>chapel<\/em> fleuri. De m\u00eame, ce don peut \u00eatre de nature m\u00e9taphorique, impliquant l\u2019\u00e9change du philtre d\u2019amour, notamment dans le <em>Tristan<\/em> <em>en prose<\/em>, ou le don du c\u0153ur qui rappelle l\u2019abn\u00e9gation \u00e9prouv\u00e9e par l\u2019amant pour sa dame.<\/p><p>Le don est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement accompli \u00e0 une ou deux mains. Il arrive cependant que l\u2019objet soit remis diff\u00e9remment, entre l\u2019index et le pouce dans le contexte d\u2019\u00e9change propre aux fian\u00e7ailles aristocratiques ou, plus rarement, \u00e9lev\u00e9 par un soupir, en conformit\u00e9 avec le texte concern\u00e9. Femmes et dames sont majoritairement les r\u00e9ceptrices des pr\u00e9sents, mais il arrive qu\u2019elles s\u2019illustrent en tant que donatrices. Dans la moiti\u00e9 des images de ce corpus, la dame et parfois m\u00eame la femme aristocratique sont figur\u00e9es en position \u00e9galitaire avec l\u2019amant ou l\u2019homme qui leur font face. Elles partagent avec eux la m\u00eame taille et ex\u00e9cutent parfois des gestes de don et de r\u00e9ception
